SINCE FEBRUARY 2015, ANWAR IBRAHIM HAS BEEN A POLITICAL PRISONER FOR
The Reformasi Leader
Anwar is the former deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia who has led
for two decades Malaysia’s political opposition and reform movement. He has been imprisoned for his advocacy of political reform to eradicate corruption within the Malaysian government.
The People’s Choice
Pakatan, the opposition coalition led by Anwar, won a 52% majority of the popular vote in Malaysia’s 2013 General Elections, but through malapportionment was denied the right to form its government. He leads a pioneering multi-ethnic, multi-racial and multi-religious coalition that made history at the ballot box, despite nearly insurmountable odds.
Fighter Against Authoritarian Kleptocracy
The ruling party controls virtually all print and broadcast media in Malaysia, but its graft and election fraud are frequent news stories around the world . This wholesale corruption has made transparency and accountability almost impossible, while allowing the rise of a kleptocracy that has reached unprecedented levels. Anwar’s fight against these crimes, is the reason he is now a political prisoner in his own country.
Victim of Injustice
Anwar’s trial has made a mockery of judicial independence and rule of law. More details of his case are also appended HERE.
